When you initially launch PowerPoint a dialog box will appear that allows you to create a new blank presentation.
From this dialog box you can also create a presentation using the AutoContent Wizard (completely designed slide presentation) or create a presentation using a design theme (allows you to select slide background).
After selecting a Blank Presentation the Choose AutoLayout dialog box appears. Here you can select the the layout of the individual slide. There are 24 different slide layouts to choose from.
After selecting the slide layout content can be added. Simply click as indicated and type the desired text.
You will find that the PowerPoint Toolbars are almost exactly the same as Word. For a description of each tool, review the Word Basics tutorial. There are a few additional tools in PowerPoint that you should be aware of:

The Common Tasks allows you to quickly create a new slide, apply a different slide layout to an existing slide or apply a design template to a slide or the entire presentation |
Click Common Tasks > Apply Design Template.
A variety of design templates are available. Be sure to select a template that provides good contrast (dark background, light text). It's a good idea to try to preview your slide presentation on an LCD projector before you actually present to an audience. You want to check it in a room of similar size and lighting as the actual presentation location and ensure that all of the slides are easily read from a distance.
Click Common Tasks > New Slide and select the desired slide layout. Click OK.
After typing the first bullet item press Enter. Press the tab key or the Demote icon
to create a second level paragraph. To return to the first level paragraph press Shift+Tab or press the Promote icon

OutlineAs you add slides to your presentation you should notice that an outline will display in the left pane. This outline can be used to move through the presentation, move slides, and add additional content.
You can move slides by holding down the left mouse button on the small slide icon in outline view and dragging the slide to the new location (this reorders the slides).
PowerPoint Views
When you open PowerPoint Normal view is the default view. This displays the outline, the current slide, and the notes at the bottom of the screen. You can change views using the icons in the lower left-hand corner of the screen.

Click on slide 1 in the outline. Click the Slide Show icon
or click Slide Show > View Show (F5). To move to the next slide click the slide once with the mouse or press the spacebar. To go back a slide, right click the slide and click Previous.
Switch to Slide Sorter View
. I would recommend applying the same transition to all slides, but you can apply transitions to individual slides if you like. Select all slides by pressing CTRL+A on the keyboard. Click the drop down arrow next to No Transition or No Effect.

Transitions effect the way that the entire slide is displayed. Effects are applied to text and images on the slide.
Select the slide > click Common Tasks > Slide Layout > select the desired layout and click OK. Existing text and elements on the page will automatically be repositioned.
Adding ObjectsIf you select a slide layout that has an object (clipart, chart, organizational chart, or media clip) then double click the object placeholder to add the object.
You will find that inserting objects like clipart and wordart is exactly the same as Word. For more information on clipart and wordart review the Word Intermediate tutorial.
Click File > Print.
